TRENDING Is Chat GPT Affecting Your SEO?

SEO

Why the new AI sensation may be more detrimental to your business marketing efforts than you realise – and how to easily overcome it.

WHAT IS CHAT GPT?

Chat GPT is a new chat-based Generative Pretrained Transformer (GPT), or Artificial Intelligence (AI) programme, as most of us refer to it. The programme allows users to input queries which then generates content (both long and short-form), much akin to a human-like response. Not only this, but Chat GPT can answer questions in relation to the original query or question submitted. The ability to create quality content at a tremendous rate is just one of the reasons why it has become so popular in recent months.

The latest version, Chat GPT 4, has been said to be even smarter than its predecessor, now enabling users to generate over 25,000 words.

WHY ARE BUSINESSES USING CHAT GPT?

In short, this AI programme can perform a multitude of daily tasks in mere minutes, from writing articles to creating document summaries, translating language and everything in between. It’s no wonder so many of us have flocked to see what all of the fuss is about.

HOW CAN CHAT GPT AFFECT MY SEO?

As beneficial as it may appear, it hasn’t stopped a lot of professionals from (rightly) questioning if this could have a detrimental effect on their SEO. Whilst there are advantages depending on your strategy, such as scaling your content library at speed, there are also a number of things that should be considered by any business looking to increase their content production with a ‘quality control’ and ‘factual’ focus.

1 – ARTICLES: TRENDING OR EVERGREEN?

If you’re looking to jump on trends and push out articles regularly, Chat GPT may be the answer. However, if you’re looking to generate educational and informative content that will still be relevant in the future, then self-written articles that include factual information, with carefully chosen keywords is the best option for long-term SEO growth.

2 – PRODUCE ORIGINAL CONTENT TO STAY IN GOOGLE’S GOOD BOOKS

Google’s Algorithm prioritises original and useful content. So, even if you’re writing content for the web without the use of AI, be that an article post, product description or even your ‘about us’ page, simply stuffing keywords into your content won’t get you far. Believe it or not, you’re still able to produce original content using AI – HOWEVER, you’ll need to moderate this by checking and balancing.

3 – TOP TIPS FOR CREATING CONTENT USING AI (CHAT GPT)

  • Ensure your content is targeted to an existing audience
  • Prioritise first-hand factual and opinion-based content from your business expertise
  • Always ensure statistics and facts taken from AI are proven and up to date
  • Provide useful takeaways for your audience and target consumer

CAN I STILL USE AI IN MY MARKETING EFFORTS?

At Marketing Elect, we will always advise that organic, well-researched keywords tailored to your business and industry take priority over a quick win. For many of our clients, the ability to push out a high level of content is of course attractive, but in summary, it’s all about getting the balance right.
